The Barbados
Association Of Atlanta Inc.
The Barbados association
of Atlanta Inc. was conceived by a handful of Bajans
back in the Mid 1980's. In 1986 an interim committee
was formed which ultimately lead to the association's
incorporation.
Mrs. Shirley Squires was
the interim president and ultimately is founding president.
During the course of several years the following persons
have served as president of the association. Shirley
squires, Alan Russell, Ken Knight, Bonita Ebb, Tony Alleyne,
Russell Boyce, Michael Drayton, Gail Ishmael, Tony
Alleyne, Darcy King and
the Current
President Tony Alleyne. Special mention must also be
given to the Late Dr. Romley Moseley after whom
the Annual scholarship award is named. The association
meets once per month and during the course of the year
one of its major activities include celebrating Barbados'
independence anniversary with an awards banquet and ball.
Aims and Objectives
A major theme is the
fostering of social and cultural ties with barbadian's
and persons of Barbadian ancestry in the southeastern.
USA. as well as offering opportunities for greater interaction
with the community, its leaders and other social and cultural
groups. The Membership of the association also includes
Americans and others of Caribbean decent and is open to
all nationalities. |
